These are pictures from Lome, the capital of Togo. Lome has
some interesting contrasts between the richer and poorer sides, and there
are times when I would stare in disbelief that I was actually in Africa.
It is so different sometimes and at others it's not so different at all. |

There are lots of cars and paved roads in many places, but you don't have
to go far out of Lome to find mud huts and small villages. You might be
driving along, looking at small mud brick or concrete buildings, or watching
the people on the side of road selling fried fish, and all of a sudden you
see a BMW sitting at a shell station or a Coke billboard. |
It really hit me on my first trip and again this time. We are not alone
in our faith. The people of Togo pray to the same God we do. They pray in
a different language but it is still the same God. We do not stand before
God just as Americans, but we are also part of the church of Christ. We
stand with millions of people from every tribe, tounge and nation. |

The first day in Togo we went to this chruch service. The pastor called
me and Joey up with two others from the congregation. Then we put our hands
together and he said, "We are different colors, but all one in Christ."
The body of Christ reaches across continents and cultures. It was awesome
to worship together with our African brothers and sisters. |
